I did not believe GM killed the electric vehicle until I saw a documentary that showed them and someone that was picked by GM, together with many others, to drive them and communicate GM about it, he wanted to keep it but be told they "Had" to take it back. Later he took a photo of a big stack of them in place where on earth they were crushed. Why did GM do it? Evil or stupidity? Clue No. 1. Many years ago we had big boat-looking-cars, back surrounded by the mid 1950s and the Japanese came out with small cars. Well, you know what happened. Clue No. 2: The Japanese come out with Robot-made fuel-efficient cars and well, you know what happened. Clue No. 3: Toyota have build the Prius Hybrid for years and GM had to do "research" to build one, only a year ago they came out beside one, just one, they are planning to someday build one for the public. Conclusion: Stupidity, not Evil. They seem unable to hire Japanese Engineers to develop their cars. The Japanese even agreed to build a factory next to GM in Fremont, California, to make sure they could learn how to build cars that last over 60,000 miles, instead of 10,000. The Lesson: The Worst Student Is One Who Does Not Know, He Does Not Know. There is no way to teach him anything, until after he learns he does not know doesn`t matter what he wants and needs to know.. In short: There is no worst blind than one who does not wish to see.If electric cars such as the Chevy...
Large businesses. The gas stations may not go away, anyway. Hydrogen and electric will become hybrid. The gas stations will go hydrogen and maybe even natural gas. The auto parts store still will sell twist shield wipers, tires, radios, CBs, wiper fluid, and much much more. Just because it is high tech doesn't make it perfect. Coal will power cars if we use electric. Not well brought-up. Coal is the heaviest polluter and very deadly to be around a coal power plant for years. It is very expensive for the elected representatives. If they bought the power plants and built solar, it would be different. Nice, clean, and healthy. We own the tech to run electric cars for 1200 miles on one charge thanks to the unique ability to recharge itself, but electric is to underestimate and it is to risky to produce cars no one thinks is a ethical decision. People typically think "what if I want to go farther than 40 miles?" Would you spent a forth of a trillion on a car that everyone pities when the discount is failing and banks are going bye-bye?Best Answer: It wasn’t the government, big oil, or big business that kill the electric car, it was the general public. Here I’m going to offer you a choice of two SUV’s. I picked a SUV because you can compare apples to apples 1. A Phoenix SUV with range of 100 miles, a 5 to 6 hour recharge time with the on the ship charger or 10 minuets with a special external charger. Seating for 6. Cost about $45,000 2. A Honda Pilot SUV with a scale of about 350 mile at 17 mpg, Fill up time about 5 to 10 minuets. Seating for 8. Cost about $30,000 similar trim plane. Now if you paid nothing ($0.00) for your electricity you would need to drive just about 51,000 mile to break even if gas was $5.00 per gallon at $4.00 per gallon you’d have to drive over 63,000 miles to break even and that assuming you pay nil for the electricity. So there’s you choices, a more expensive with a 100 range that will take at best over 50,000 miles to break even or a cheaper one beside a 350 mile range. The public already picked and we picked gasoline over electric. Less parts in the engine, look at golf carts, no nouns, no heat, no power steering, most are driven very slowly over very short distances. Think just about it when was the last time you saw a golf cart surrounded by for a break job? If you only drove a car a 1,000 miles a year how much would you want to do to it, not much. So as far auto dealer’s, gas stations, and auto parts stores muffler shops going broke if everyone suddenly starting driving electric cars, wouldn’t happen. You wouldn’t have oil change or mufflers to deal with, but breaks, hoses, would still need to be changed, not to mention electric power steering racks, bubble joints, tie rods, electric ac/heat lines. I’d say some places would go out of business, but not as various as you think. Gas stations would offer quick charge and the convenience store would own you inside for at least 10 minutes every 100 miles. So in a 500 mile trip you get to spend a partially hour waiting for your charge. So many of the Jiffy lube places would convert to recharge station so you can go on that trip to see grandma, just have an idea that about it I need to fill up once every 350 miles you would necessitate to stop three times in that same distance. If electric cars would sell at a profit the auto companies would be selling them
If everyone drove a hybrid or fully...

Electric cars are making a huge comeback right presently. See link below. What originally killed it was that the automakers be forced to produce EVs against their will by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Most of the automakers were straight-up in saying that they be only going to make these cars against their will, only lease them, and win rid of them as soon as the requirement ended. GM was not up front about this, so it cause a big stir when they did the same thing. The biggest problem at the time was that gas be so freaking cheap. Not a lot of people wanted electric cars because they be perfectly happy with gas cars. And the automakers be happy making gas cars, because that's the technology they'd been pefecting for nearly a century. Now the situation is different - everyone is demanding more fuel efficient cars because they're more aware of worldwide warming and gas prices have gone way up. So in a minute the demand is there and the automakers are willingly making EVs. Especially since at hand are a lot of small companies also making them.Electric Powered Ride-On Cars for toddlers- which...
Baypoints suggestion that it is GMs stupidity is utter nonsense, it is basically down to profits and they are pushing what they can make the most money they possibly can beside for as long as they possibly can, look a little back in history and you will find that GM motors in reality (in a word) sabotaged the railways in order to sell more cars / tires / roads / petrol etc. (all owned by GM motors)Is it possible to buy a fully...
That electric car was never alive. California forced GM to construct a car that was not technologically realistic and in many ways unsafe. So lets put it this method, the EV-1 went the way of the Dodo bird, nobody killed it. While you are at it, did you realize that exxon is the 17th largest grease company, so is exxon "Big Oil", or just another company that is selling you products, you want and they are not big enough to force you do do anything, approaching the state of California? Why would aut dealers go broke, you will still need an electric coupé, they break down, you still have car wrecks. You will still need to spread them up. The chaises needs lubes and you need tires. The gear box will need to be checked, the AC and belts, brushes contained by the motor, bearings and on and on. THEN, cooper prices are going through the roof, so the electric motors will triple in costs.... If everyone is on the electrict bandwagon, gasoline will drop to $1.00/gallon.Does electric cars REALLY PRODUCE LESS pollution...
